Sunday, August 10: Time snuck up on me and before I knew it, it was time for Thomas and I to fly "home" to Iowa, but this time only on a one-way. It was a day that we had looked forward to, but also a day that we knew was going to be filled with all sorts of different emotions. Because of that, we thought we might as well start those emotions on a high with an early morning breakfast at the airport version of the infamous Phoenix food joint called Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles. Who doesn't want some good ol' southern style cookin' at 7 am in the morning? Thomas and I happily shared our fried waffles and cheese smothered scrambled eggs with Shannon and the boys, as they met us at the airport for some "see-ya-later hugs!"
I am sad I didn't get a picture with just KHQ, but we did get one with Thomas and his best buddies in the Valley. We were so glad Aunt Shannon and the boys were willing to rise and shine before the sun came up to come give us hugs before we boarded the plane. My tears finally flowed quite heavily as Thomas and I turned away and made our way down security - so much as to it was difficult to see them walk away, but Thomas was able to get a last minute wave to the boys in before they were gone :). And the airport security people saw me coming - with a two year old in one hand, a stroller in the other, an over-filled diaper bag, a 36 week along pregnant belly - and graciously met me with boxes of Kleenex. I was grateful.
God has a sense of humor, because for as much as Thomas and I have flown the past two years (Thomas has been on something like 30-35 one way flights - mostly to and from Iowa), he has flown for FREE up until this particular flight. However, Vermeer graciously paid for our flights back to Iowa for the move - so it was still FREE. Needless to say, he was pretty excited to have his own seat, but not as excited as his big-bellied mama!
"Aunt Nikki" greeted us at the Des Moines airport and didn't waste anytime to play games with the Tman. Amongst our large haul of luggage, they snuck in a quick game of hide and seek...
Upon arriving to Pella, Thomas and I wanted to treat "Aunt Nikki" so immediately after driving by our new house, we went to the "oh-gurt" place in town called The Mango Tree. This isn't your typical Yogurtland, Mojo Yogurt, or Orange Leaf (our frequents in PHX) as 100% of the proceeds at The Mango Tree go to a Pella organization called Many Hands for Haiti. For more information, check out www.mh4h.org. Because 100% of our donations for yogurt here go to MH4H, Thomas and I might be visiting this place every day!
They even have little pieces of Dutch letters to put on your yogurt. Can I stay pregnant forever??
After checking into our temporary home for the next two weeks, the Country Inn and Suites, we played outside as it was an absolute BEAUTIFUL evening. And what did we find in the backyard of the hotel? HORSES!
Classic Iowa.
What a day!
